What A Find, And Only At Pickford's!!

January 14, 2026

Welcome to Pickford's!

PICKFORD WILL BE DRIVING TO CHARLOTTESVILLE TOMORROW MORING, AND WILL BE RETURNING TO THE SHOP HOPEFULLY BY NOON?

Early this morning I received a phone call from one of my distributors that a 200+ pound BLUEFIN TUNA WAS CAUGHT OF THE COAST OF NORTH CAROLINA! Tuna prices are out of control high, so I'm lowering the price as much as possible. This is a rare catch to find BLUEFIN TUNA in JANUARY of the coast  of OBX, and Virginia which was a State Record at 383+ pounds!

Pickford only ordered 8+ pounds because even with taken the cost down, the BLUEFIN 1+ Grade must be sold for $39.99 a pound, and once I remove the chain, and bloodline, I maybe looking at 5.5 to 6 pounds?

Pickford's will also be picking up...

BLUEFIN TUNA (The flavor profile of bluefin tuna is complex and multifaceted, with a range of characteristics that contribute to its unique taste experience. Rich, buttery, and meaty are just a few words that describe the flavor of bluefin tuna. When consumed as sashimi or sushi, the raw flesh of the bluefin tuna has a firm, velvety texture that simply melts in the mouth. The flavor is often described as umami, with a deep, savory taste that’s both rich and refined. One of the key factors that contribute to the unique flavor of bluefin tuna is its high fat content. Bluefin tuna has a high percentage of fatty acids, particularly in the belly section, which is often reserved for the most premium sushi and sashimi dishes. The fat content of bluefin tuna can range from 20-30%, depending on the species and the time of year it’s caught. This high fat content gives bluefin tuna its characteristic rich, buttery flavor and silky texture, making it a delicacy among seafood connoisseurs.) WHAT A FIND!!
