ALOIS CAMPOLE AGLIANICO

Always rated highly by Gambero Rosso, the most respected Italian wine review organization. This is pure Aglianico from the Pontelatone (Caserta/Italy) in Campania, where the soil is volcanic with a fairly good presence of minerals. This was vinified in stainless steel with maceration on the skins for 16 days followed by secondary fermentaion and aging in oak. The result is a delicious and bright expression of the varietal, with deeply spiced aromatics suggestive of dark fruit and earth. The palate is succulent and the finish is fresh with a supremely balanced quality that makes this a terrific partner to many foods.
